Home Accessibility & Aging-in-Place Services

Everything your home needs — designed around your life, installed by CAPS-certified specialists who know Central Texas homes.

Most people want to stay in their own home as long as possible. That makes sense. Your home holds your history, your routines, your comfort. A few well-chosen modifications can make the difference between staying safely and moving somewhere you would rather not go.

At Live Oak Home Access, we handle every piece of that process — from the first walk-through to the final cleanup. We are a family-owned, CAPS-certified company based in Dripping Springs. We serve Austin, the Hill Country, and all of Central Texas. Our team brings OT-informed design knowledge to every project, so our solutions are built around how people actually move through their homes, not just a checklist of products.

Below you will find our full range of services. Each one links to a dedicated page with details, typical Central Texas cost ranges, and answers to the questions we hear most. If you are not sure where to start, our free whole-home assessment is the right first step.

What we do

Our Accessibility Services

Every service is backed by our workmanship warranty, our Licensed & Insured standing, and our promise to protect your floors and clean up daily.

Walk-In & Curbless Showers

Eliminate the step-over hazard with a curbless or low-threshold shower. We handle full tub-to-shower conversions, roll-in shower builds, and bench and handheld-showerhead installs. ADA-compliant tile and barrier-free drains included.

Walk-In Tubs

A walk-in tub lets you enter and exit without climbing over the side. They are especially helpful for anyone who finds a standard tub difficult but still wants to soak. We source, deliver, and install — including any needed plumbing upgrades.

Learn more →

Wheelchair Ramps

A properly built ramp makes your front door — or any exterior threshold — safely accessible for wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters. We build permanent wood or aluminum ramps and install modular systems, all to ADA slope standards.

Stair Lifts

A stair lift lets you use every floor of your home without risking the stairs. We supply and install straight and curved-rail lifts from trusted manufacturers, with battery backup so the lift works even during a power outage.

Residential Elevators & Platform Lifts

For homes where a stair lift is not a fit — or where you want a long-term, fully enclosed solution — a residential elevator or vertical platform lift is worth considering. We assess your home, outline the structural requirements, and manage the full installation.

Grab Bars & Bathroom Safety

Strategically placed grab bars are the single highest-impact change in most bathrooms. We install grab bars into wall studs or with specialty anchors, in exactly the spots your body needs support — beside the toilet, in the shower, and along the entry path.

Learn more →

Accessible Bathroom Remodel

When the whole bathroom needs updating, we redesign the layout for safety and ease of use — widening the doorway, replacing the tub with a roll-in shower, adding blocking for grab bars, and choosing slip-resistant tile and comfort-height fixtures throughout.

Comfort-Height & ADA Toilets and Fixtures

A taller toilet makes sitting down and standing up much easier on the knees and hips. We replace standard-height toilets with comfort-height or ADA-compliant models and update faucets and controls for easier reach and grip — often in a single afternoon.

Learn more →

Doorway Widening & Zero-Step Entry

Standard doorways are often too narrow for a wheelchair or walker. We widen interior and exterior doorways to 32–36 inches and eliminate exterior thresholds so you can move freely from room to room and in and out of the house without bumping or stepping.

Solutions by Situation

Not everyone arrives at this page with the same concern. Here is a quick guide to the most common situations we see across Central Texas. By Michael Chandler, Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS).

Mom or Dad just got home from rehab

After a hospital stay or rehab, the first 90 days at home carry the highest fall risk. The most important moves right now: grab bars beside the toilet and in the shower, a raised toilet seat or comfort-height toilet replacement, and a grab bar or handrail at every exterior step. Our whole-home assessment identifies everything at once so you can prioritize the urgent work.

Using a wheelchair or rollator

Doorways, thresholds, and the bathroom are usually the biggest barriers. Start with doorway widening and zero-step entry, then move to a roll-in or curbless shower. A wheelchair ramp at the main entry gives you safe, independent access to and from the house.

Stairs are becoming a problem

If the stairs between floors feel risky — or if you are starting to sleep downstairs to avoid them — a stair lift restores full use of your home. For a multi-story home where a stair lift does not quite fit, ask us about residential elevators and platform lifts.

Planning ahead while still healthy

The best time to modify a home is before a fall or injury forces the conversation. Small changes made now — blocking in the walls for future grab bars, widening a doorway, switching to a comfort-height toilet — are less disruptive and often less expensive than emergency work later. Our CAPS-certified team can help you build a phased plan that fits your timeline and budget.

Veteran or surviving spouse

The VA HISA (Home Improvement and Structural Alterations) grant helps eligible veterans pay for medically necessary home modifications. We work with veterans and their families on the paperwork, and we are familiar with the documentation the VA typically requires. See our funding guide for a plain-language overview — and verify current VA figures directly with the VA.

Whole bathroom needs an update

Sometimes the grab-bar-and-ramp approach is the right fit. Other times the bathroom itself is dated, cramped, or poorly laid out — and the best answer is a full accessible bathroom remodel that solves everything at once. We redesign the space from the floor up, with OT-informed layout decisions and materials chosen for safety and easy cleaning.

Not sure where to start?

Most families we work with begin here: a free, no-obligation whole-home safety assessment. One of our CAPS-certified specialists visits your home, walks through every room, and puts a clear written plan in your hands — prioritized by safety urgency and practical for your budget.

There is no charge for the assessment and no pressure to move forward. Many families use it simply to understand their options and share the report with a doctor or occupational therapist.

Funding Help & Cost Guidance

Affordability is one of the first questions we hear. Here is what we know — and where to look for help.

Typical Central Texas cost ranges

Costs vary widely — a grab-bar installation looks nothing like a full bathroom remodel. We publish typical Central Texas ranges on each service page, but your exact cost comes from a free in-home assessment.

See our Central Texas cost guide for a full breakdown by project type.

Funding sources that may help

  • Original Medicare does not cover these modifications, but some Medicare Advantage plans offer limited home-safety benefits.
  • VA HISA grant helps eligible veterans with medically necessary modifications.
  • Texas Medicaid STAR+PLUS can cover Minor Home Modifications for qualifying members.
  • Local programs — some counties and Area Agencies on Aging offer assistance.

We help with paperwork, but this is not medical, legal, or financial advice. Verify current program details with each agency directly.
